Safe fruit ripening: FSSAI bans Calcium Carbide

At Asha Ram And Sons, we believe in promoting safe and healthy food practices for the well-being of our customers. Recently, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) banned the use of calcium carbide for fruit ripening, and we fully endorse this decision.

Why is Calcium Carbide banned?

Calcium carbide is a hazardous chemical used in the artificial ripening of fruits that can cause health problems like:

  1. Dizziness
  2. Vomiting
  3. Skin ulcers

It contains arsenic and phosphorus, which can be harmful to the body.

So what’s the alternative for this?

The FSSAI recommends the use of ethylene gas for fruit ripening. Ethylene gas, a safe and natural alternative, triggers the natural ripening process without leaving any harmful residues on fruits, making it safe for consumption. It, therefore, does not pose any health risks to consumers.

We understand the importance of promoting safe and healthy food practices. We encourage all our customers to prioritize the health and safety of consumers by choosing fruits that are ripened naturally or with safe alternatives like ethylene gas.

Team ARS strongly supports FSSAI’s efforts to promote healthy food practices and will continue to provide innovative and customized F&B solutions that prioritize the well-being of our customers.
